What Charles is
Charles is software you run on your own server. We aren't a broker-dealer, investment adviser, commodity trading advisor or fiduciary. We never hold your money, never have access to your accounts, and never place orders for you. Nothing we publish is investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell anything. We're paid only for software services, such as the one-time setup fee, and never based on anyone's trades or results.
Links that may earn us credit
Our setup guide links to DigitalOcean with a referral code. If you sign up through it, DigitalOcean may give us account credit, at no cost to you. No broker, exchange, fund or data provider pays us, and nothing we receive depends on your trades.
Trademarks
Charles, Evil Charles and the terrier logo are our marks. Alpaca, DigitalOcean, Stripe, Anthropic, Claude, Groq, Kalshi, Coinbase, GitHub and S&P 500 are trademarks of their owners. We aren't affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
Open-source parts
Charles is built with open-source software, each part under its own license: the Python packages it installs are listed in its requirements file on GitHub, and the website's fonts (Inter and JetBrains Mono) are under the SIL Open Font License.
Security and accessibility
